Cantor Marcie Jonas has been connected to Jewish music in a professional capacity for more than 45 years. She has been playing guitar since a very young age and attended as a camper and worked as a songleader at Kutz Camp in Warwick, NY (a leadership training camp affiliated with the Reform Movement) and Camp Shwayder in Colorado. (located at 11,000 feet). Marcie earned her BA in Speech Communication from Ithaca College and her MA in Jewish Education from the Jewish Theological Seminary of America in New York. She has also studied at Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel and at the Hartt School of Music in Hartford, CT. Marcie graduated and received her Cantorial Ordination from Hebrew College, School of Jewish Music, in Newton, MA. She is the 2010 recipient of the Cantor Rick Boyer (z”l) prize for Excellence in Hazzanut. Cantor Jonas currently serves on the Hebrew College Alumni Board as one of the Vice Presidents. Through Cantor Jonas’ advanced education and employment experience, she is able to serve congregations in a variety of ways, either alone or with other clergy.
